The Nordic Network on Imaging in Medicine and Biology is funded by NordForsk. This network gathers the leading units on cellular and medical imaging in the Nordic region. Our aim is to improve interdisciplinary training and cooperation between diverse imaging fields. Traditionally there has been relatively little communication between the disciplines of clinical imaging (used on patients for disease monitoring and predictive therapy) and cellular and molecular imaging (used in research labs to dissect the underlying causes of disease). However, there is an emerging awareness of the benefits of increased interaction between these fields. Network funding is used to organise symposia, workshops and targeted training events to enhance exchange of expertise in advanced imaging. Training events commenced in 2008 and continue through to 2010.

We are optimistic that the advantages derived from this network will ensure the establishment of a permanent network of medical imaging excellence in the Nordic area. In the long term this initiative, which increases cooperation among Nordic countries, will enhance the international competitiveness of the Nordic region in bioimaging. Our expectation is that this will improve quality of life by providing optimal technologies for patient care.

The network assembles a diverse array of 38 prominent research groups from the Nordic countries:

FINLAND, SWEDEN, NORWAY, DENMARK

including partner groups from

IRELAND and RUSSIA
