Please apply to nordicimaging@neuro.gu.se by May 7, 2010. -----------------Nordic Network on Imaging in Medicine and Biology Workshop:
siRNA knockdown techniques and quantification and imaging using confocal
stereology Preliminary program: siRNAs (DHARMACON; NORDIC BIOLABS) Introduction to siRNA. Why we use it? - Transfection methods: focus on transfection of difficult cells - Principles of siRNA: what you are targeting, pitfalls - Using PCR to observe your knockdown; Thursday - Intro to tissue and siRNA knockdown - Introduction, tissue delivery of siRNA and pitfalls of working in tissues - Guest Lecture: Applications: research using siRNA knockdown in tissue & Questions - How to get great images (tissues siRNA knockdown, cells) - Confocal microscopes and applications, Live cell microscopes and applications (LEICA); Friday – Practical work on three stations - 1. Confocal hands on station. Focus: practical solutions to problems with imaging and analysis (LEICA), 2. Stereology overview, 3. Stereology hands on station. Focus: software and analysis; later on - Image analysis For more information contact: Milos.Pekny(at)neuro.gu.se -----------------Bio-NMR-Workshop: Modifying Magnetic Resonance Imaging Contrast The aim of this course is to deepen the understanding of the theory and techniques behind the advanced and novel MRI techniques. The invited international speakers have been chosen to cover a large spectrum of the most important MRI techniques. Each speaker will present a lecture of the theoretical concepts and design of the studies on the first day and a more applied scientific talk on the second or third day of the course. More information: www.uku.fi/gsmm/mmri Workshop on small animal MR imaging This two-day workshop will focus on in vivo MR imaging and spectroscopy of small animals, introducing MR theory and providing hands-on training at our MR-scanners. On day 1, there will be plenary lectures from international and local speakers focusing on small animal MRI and MRS applications for brain, heart and cancer. On day 2, participants will be divided into groups and take part in hands-on training on our MR-scanners, as well as learn more about MR-theory/physics. The course will be put together so that it should interests both those that are new to the field of MRI/MRS, and those that have some experience with the techniques. Topics: - In vivo MR spectroscopy in brain and cancer research - Preclinical MR in cancer: in vivo MR imaging and spectroscopy - Small animal cardiac imaging - Perfusion imaging - Brain imaging with manganese-enhanced MRI - MRI of stem cells and nanoparticles - Post processing of MR-data - Hands-on training on 7T dedicated animal MR scanner and 500/600 MHz high resolution spectrometers - MR-theory/physics Invited speakers: * Professor Arend Heerschap, Nijmegen Centre for Molecular
Life Sciences (NCMLS), University of Nijmegen, the Netherlands For more information and registration, contact Marius
Widerøe, marius.wideroe(at)ntnu.no or go to the meeting web page

Animal Imaging Workshop This workshop is designed to give PhD students and post doctoral fellows an introduction to non-invasive animal imaging techniques and applications in biological and medical research. Participants will learn how various imaging techniques and imaging technologies can be combined to provide increased information. They will also have the opportunity to participate in animal imaging demonstrations using the various imaging modalities available at the BioTurku campus. Topics: Confirmed speakers include: Bernd Pichler, Laboratory
for precilinical imaging, Dept of radiology, University of Tuebingen,
Tuebingen, Germany. MRI-PET; Jörg Pichler, German Cancer Center,Heidelberg,Germany.
PET-Optical Imaging; Mika Linden, Dept of Physical Chemistry, Åbo
Akademi University, Turku, Finland. Nanomaterials in bioimaging. Registration is over. For more information, contact: Cecilia.Sahlgren(at)btk.fi or Tove.Gronroos(at)utu.fi
